The charcoal drawing on gray paper was my favorite assignment of this class, but it took me an extremely long time to finish. I had to draw individual thin, thick, light, and dark lines to ensure the lion's fur looked realistic. I believe that this drawing has good composition because, though the lion's mane extends off the paper, the face is centered and the features are proportional to one another. If I could, I would change two things about this drawing. First, I would try to add more dark values in the mane, especially toward the bottom of the drawing. I would also try to make the bottom of the lion's face look more realistic. It was very difficult to draw the beard and surrounding mane because of the long, profound lines. Overall, I am very happy with how this drawing turned out, and I very much enjoyed working with charcoal!
